OpenBMS schematics are here!

Woohoo! Schematics are here!

After many coffees, we have the first version of the OpenBMS schematics. We use KiCAD for our hardware design and all files are available on our GitHub repo.

What did we pay attention to?

We wanted to make the design as simple as possible, but also to have all the necessary features for a fully functional BMS, as well as to make it easy to use and understand, so we added some comments to the schematics. We particularly paid attention to:

  • Protection design — 3 levels of protection are provided: software (the usual one), hardware, which works independently of the software and can disconnect the battery in case of emergency, and fuses, which are the last line of defense in case of catastrophic failure
  • Component selection — no fancy or expensive components, but regular components that are easy to source and replace if needed
  • Simple and cost-effective design
  • Modularity — the design is modular, so you can easily modify or add features if you want

What’s next?

Now we are working on the PCB layout, which is the next step in the hardware design process. We will try to make it as compact as possible, while also ensuring good thermal management and avoiding any potential issues.

Meanwhile, check our project page for more details!
